Letter to the Swedish Government: Embryos and embryo models – the need for an updated regulatory framework for research on early human development

In this Letter, the Swedish National Council on Medical Ethics analyses the ethical issues raised by recent developments in embryo- and stem cell research. The council makes a number of recommendations to the Swedish Government regarding the need to review the current regulatory framework for research on early human development. The recommendations include an extension of the time permitted for research on human embryos and the adoption of new regulation covering research on human stem cell-derived embryo models.
